EP15- FOSTERING a life of love…
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
This week, we dive into the world of foster care with a special mama with a huge heart, Ashley Baker. After having one biological child and experiencing kidney failure, this warrior went through a kidney transplant and then decided to look toward other parenting options. Through foster care, she and her husband have welcomed 16 children through their doors with open arms.
Ashley talks about the highs and lows of foster care and how it has not only transformed her life, but also the life of her biological daughter. This mama is, as she says, “a champion for special needs, foster care and adoption.” I’d just say in general, she’s a champion, a warrior and overall badass loving woman.
What a joy it was to chat with her. If you’re in the VA Beach area and want more information on fostering children, send me an email and I can connect you both for coffee. If you’re not in the area, email me also and I will connect you to Ashley so she can answer all your questions.

EP13- PART 2: Finding the beauty in the chaos…
Wednesday Oct 16, 2019
Wednesday Oct 16, 2019
*This Episode has 2 Parts*
My guest, Kayla Zuidersma, a Certified Labour & Postpartum Doula, as well as a Birth Photographer, discusses her extremely long 38 hour labor with her first child. After having gone through that experience, she decided to take control of her second birth and as a result experienced a completely different postpartum recovery. As a doula and a mom, Kayla encourages mamas to take control of their own birth. She discusses ways in which this can be done and shares her personal experience.
Keep listening, because she also shares two beautiful and amazing birthing stories that she witnessed being a doula. The first one being very calm and serene and the second having the essence of a circus, while a beautiful life was being brought Earth-side.
Kayla's love and joy of supporting mamas is palpable and she was such a treat to talk to, we just couldn't stop chatting, so make sure you listen to both Part 1 and Part 2.

EP12- Becoming a mama before Broadway…
Wednesday Oct 09, 2019
Wednesday Oct 09, 2019
From the Broadway Company of Hamilton, Liz Racanelli is a mama who found that becoming a mom made her grow not only as a person, but as a performer. Like many actors, this mama didn’t “make it” (as they say) on Broadway before becoming a mama, but tells us how it was more important to make those meaningful life decisions and let the work come as it would come.
She talks about the fear that many actors face: the joy of being on the road with a production, being employed and traveling with her infant, then moving back to the concrete jungle and not knowing when the next job will come. The dramatic change in her daily routine was a huge adjustment for both herself and her little one and she explains how they slowly moved into a new normal.
Liz is currently performing in New York City with the cast of Hamilton on Broadway.

EP11- Being a motherless mother…
Wednesday Oct 02, 2019
Wednesday Oct 02, 2019
At just 11 years old, one of my best friends, basically my sister, lost her mother to a brain tumor. It flipped all of our worlds upside down and left Sarah and her little brother, motherless. Though she continued to have countless women in her life step up and support her, there is still nothing like the voice and advise of your mother.
It wasn’t until Sarah became a mother herself, that she started to realize how much her own mother’s passing had influenced her life. She became a motherless mother.
Listen to the story of how something so terrible turned into a lifelong journey of discovery, creativity and passion.
If any of you listening, are a motherless daughter or motherless mother, send me an email and I will connect you to Sarah. It is times like these that you need a village.

EP10- Loss and overcoming birth complications...
Wednesday Sep 25, 2019
Wednesday Sep 25, 2019
Today’s guest, Paige Koupal, brings us through her journey of 3 extremely different birthing experiences. From the first normal and quick birth to laboring for 24 hours and an induction with a c-section for the second and finally deciding to take a natural approach with the third, but ultimately not being satisfied with the results. At the end of the day, she has three very healthy and happy children, but it was quite a journey to get there.
In this episode, we also take a moment to honor those babies Paige and other moms out there have lost. October is Pregnancy and Infancy Loss Awareness month, but I decided to share this episode for Paige this week because September 27th is the four year anniversary loss of one of her angels.
If you have experienced loss as a mom, remember that you are not alone and reach out for help and support. If you’d like to connect with any of the moms I interview, send me an email: thepumpingpodcast@gmail.com and I will connect you with someone to talk to.

EP9- Happy Days, Rested Nights...
Wednesday Sep 18, 2019
Wednesday Sep 18, 2019
In this episode, I get a chance to speak with Samantha Day, a mother of two, lover of country line dance, a behavior specialist and a certified sleep consultant. No matter what your method of sleep is, Samantha is here to chat with us about how important sleep is to all of us and how it doesn’t have to be such a controversy.
With her degree as a Learning Behavior Specialist and after going through sleep struggles with her son, she decided to go on a path of more research and applied her behavioral techniques, which led her back to school where she found her passion.
She recently launched her own podcast called Happy Days, Rested Nights, which discusses all things sleep and other parenting topics. She aims to help families get the sleep they need with whichever method fits their lifestyle and encourage positive parenting tips for continued happy days. Take a listen to her journey and maybe learn some tips and tricks along the way.

EP8- Life is messy, but that‘s what makes it beautiful...
Wednesday Sep 11, 2019
Wednesday Sep 11, 2019
September is NICU Awareness month and I found such a fun mom to share her experience in the NICU. Even though it took an entire decade to start a family, this hilarious mom and her husband kept their spirits high and believe “what’s the point of life if you’re not able to laugh about it.”
Now a mama of twin 2 year olds and a witty 5 year old, Sarah Krieg laughs through her challenges getting pregnant, staying pregnant, IVF, c-section, NICU care and craniosynostosis. The NICU cared for, comforted and educated Sarah and her family and for that she is so grateful.
As she says, “life is messy, but that’s what makes it beautiful,” and her light-hearted spirit definitely exudes those words. Listen to her story and prepare to laugh a lot along the way.
As a filmmaker and photographer, she hides behind the camera when trying to cope with things, as she says, but it makes for beautiful and touching stories. Check them out on her website, SharedShutter.com
